Glenna DeBord Gardner Saturday, December 6, 1924 - Thursday, April 27, 2017

Rich Valley, VA Glenna DeBord Gardner, age 92, passed away quietly at her home Thursday April 27, 2017. She was born on December 6, 1924 to the late John and Emma DeBord. Mrs. Gardner lived her entire life in Rich Valley, where she taught high school home economics and was the elementary school librarian for over 40 years. She graduated from Radford College was a member of Ridgedale United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James T. Gardner and brothers; Walter DeBord, Raymond DeBord, William DeBord, Robert DeBord, and Eugene DeBord and sisters; Margaret Ferguson, Nannie DeBord, Ethel Necsary and Ovella Clear. She is survived by two sons; Andrew Gardner of Hillsville, VA and James H. Gardner M.D. of Roanoke, VA and one daughter Emma Wheeler and husband Jim of Richmond, VA; three granddaughters, Rachel, Shannon, and Molly Wheeler of Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-law, Gail DeBord and Jane DeBord and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday April 30, 2017 at Ridgedale United Methodist Church with Rev. Mack Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Henderson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgedale United Methodist Church. Dr. Gardner, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. While I did not have the opportunity to meet your mother, I have heard so many wonderful stories on what a sweet and kind person she was. A Mother is truly special and I pray the Lord will comfort your family during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Gardner's passing. She was very kind to me when I worked at Rich Valley. I know how much she loved teaching and working with the children. May God bless and comfort you as only He can.
